Character deviation is common nowadays. I define it as a way of self- expression and a creative form of existence. When a certain person defies the norm, that person creates a certain set of standard for himself never mindful of the keen eyes and sharp tongues of the audience. The public will serve as The Spectator however the person who deviates never allow himself to be victimized by criticisms. Subcultural fashion is the great example of Character deviation.
Cosplay on the otherhand has gained so much popularity among kids, teens and the experienced. It is an accessible subcultural fashion where people get the chance to switch characters from a formal office worker to a fierce anime character.
As a hobbyist photographer, I found an interest in such endeavor. Just like other people, I admit I often play different characters in different places and in various circumstances. It is exciting. It is emancipating.
I would like to share the photos I took recently with a fellow professional photographer friend, Mike. Prior to the activity we were planning to set the photoshoot in a nearby construction site however, time didn’t allow us and so we decided to consider Mike’s photostudio as a last resort.
Below are the pictures I took with two fictional characters, Black Rock Shooter and Balck Gold Saw cosplayed by Ms. Celes and Ms. Kotomi Hime.
Black Gold Saw
[ Character description*: Black Gold Saw (ブラック★ゴールドソ) is part of the supporting cast of the OVA series Black★Rock Shooter. Her relevance to the plot is still unclear, and her origins, along with her human counterpart, have not been disclosed.
Black Gold Saw is a girl with red eyes and long black hair. A red flame shoots out from her right eye. She has a pair of curved black horns whose color turns to red as it reaches the tip. Like Dead Master, Black Gold Saw also has skeletal claws. Her outfit is similar to Black★Rock Shooter except for the design of her jacket and her bikini top; her jacket extends into a worn-out cape which is dyed red at the end.
Like all of the "other selves", her eyes have a circular pattern in them.
Her weapon of choice is a large black sword with a long handle and a curved hilt shaped like a pointing-down crescent; its name is "King Saw". ]
Black Rock Shooter
[ Character description*: Black Rock Shooter is a pale-skinned, blue-eyed girl, with black hair in uneven twintails (possibly because one tail was burned); the right lock of her hair is shorter than her left. She bears two scars on her midriff; she wields an arm cannon and a katana named Black Blade. A blue flame shoots out from her left eye.
Her clothes consist of a string bikini top under a black jacket. The jacket has a white stripe running along the length of each of her sleeves and has a white star design on the front (left side) and back. She also wears a pair of tight-fitting shorts, gloves, and black knee-high boots.
Her weapons consist of a black-hilted katana and a large gun called ★rock Cannon, which can be transformed into a similar large blade also used by Insane Black★Rock Shooter. ★rock Cannon has a rate of fire of 20 shots per second.
In the anime, her eyes have a concentric circle pattern like all of the "other selves".
(ブラック★ロックシューター) is the titular character and a protagonist of the anime OVA Black★Rock Shooter, the RPG of the same name, and is originally the protagonist on the song of the same title. She was created by huke who participated in the song Black Rock Shooter. In the OVA, she is the "Other self" of Kuroi Mato. ]
